James works at venture capital firm General Catalyst as a Wealth Manager in its wealth management division, GC Wealth. Prior to joining General Catalyst, James worked at First Republic Investment Management in Los Angeles, CA, and Jackson, WY, from 2018 until 2023 and at Goldman Sachs in New York, NY, and Los Angeles, CA, from 1999 until 2018. James also served as the Press Secretary to US House Ways and Means Chairman Bill Archer of Texas from 1995 to 1998. James graduated from Middlebury College in 1994 and earned his MBA from Columbia Business School in 2000. 

In addition to serving as Board Chair of the Jackson Hole Community School, he is also Board Chair of Jackson based Coombs Outdoors and a volunteer firefighter and Emergency Medical Responder for Jackson Hole EMS. He and his wife Lindsay have four children (including Whitney, JHCS ’24, and Henry, JHCS ’28) and two dogs, a French Bulldog named Hazel and a Great Dane named Odie. They have had a home in the greater Jackson Hole area since 2011 and moved to Jackson full time in 2020.
